Meet your guide and driver at the port to start this Shingu shore excursions by transferring to the ancient Kamikura-Jinja Shrine. Its location is said to be where the gods first descended to earth. From here, you can have the best view of the entire Shingu area, as well as of the Kumano-nada Sea. Also, visitors can participate in Oto Matsuri Festival that is held here on February 6 annually.
Afterward, head to the trip’s main highlight Asuka-jinja, known as a part of the World Heritage 'Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range'. To the left of the way entering the shrine is the Treasure House which contains several of the kakebotoke, ceramic fragments, ancient copper coins, sacred mirrors, calligraphy scrolls, and other exhibits. Follow the path leading to the main hall, you might be impressed by its vermilion-painted structure with straw barrels of sake stacked neatly outside.
Last but not least, finish your trip by visiting Doro Kyo Gorge designated - one of Japan’s extraordinary natural monuments of scenic beauty. Sitting on speedboat cruises and prepare to be overwhelmed by splendid scenery of cliffs and exotic shaped rocks.
