Full Itinerary
Upon arrive at cruise port, meet your guide and driver. Hop on a scenic drive to reach Kotohira and stop at Konpira Grand Theatre – the oldest extant theater in Japan. Was formerly serving as a playhouse to entertain believers in deity Konpira, the theater brings a remarkable Edo-style architecture and chic. Konpira Grand Theatre still active till now that in April, local people hold the Shikoku Konpira Grand kabuki Performance.
This shore excursion continues with a visit to Kotohira-gu Shrine which is a sacred place dedicated to sailors and seafaring. Trek through the wooded slope of Mount Zozu and climb through over 1300 steps to reach the shrine on the top. As a symbol of the spiritual belief in Kotohira, the shrine is a popular site for pilgrims across the country that many souvenir shops & food stalls lining along some beginning stairs.
Interestingly, Kotohira-gu Shrine is the combination of Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temple. Elements and details inside clearly reveal its important meaning, especially Emma Hall exhibits plates and pictures of battleships. In case your physical condition not allow to climb, hire a palanquin or take a bus at a reasonable price. Trip ends with a return back to port.
